Penn Wood is bounded by Holmer Green to the north and the small village of Penn Street to the south. It is one of the largest ancient woodlands in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From before the Norman Conquest until the mid-19th century it was a wood pasture common. Part of the woodland is still managed as wood pasture with cows wandering through it during the winter months. In 1998 a nationwide campaign saved Penn Wood from destruction and development as a golf course. Today it is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust with the help of the Friends of Penn Wood. www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/visiting-woods/wood/4812/penn-wood
The photographs of Penn Wood in 2003-4 were taken by Eileen Shrimpton and those about ten years later by Barry Hunt.
