This is a harsh black and white - but one that does its job well for the eye. The gradient of greys in the midground from left to right is particularly good as it imparts a horizontal energy to the image pulling the eye toward the extreme-right whites in the suns reflection. Along the way you take in the birds. The foreground foliage works well to impart depth to the image.
