Outside the library is a memorial stone that honours the memory of the aircrew of a USAF Douglas C47E (Dakota) which crashed on nearby Kop Hill in 1944. A second stone remembers the local National Service conscripts who served in the armed forces from 1945 to 1963. Nearly 400 young men died on active service during this period when 2.5 million conscripts 'did their time'. Photographed in 2015.
