Bank Farmhouse at the junction of Tring Road and Hale Road dates from the 15th century and is one of the town's oldest buildings. The Grade II listed building was altered during the 17th and 18th centuries. Its proportionately large number of blocked up windows reflects the influence of the notorious window tax, which was not abolished until 1851. Some buildings had 'blind' windows due to internal changes, such as installing a new staircase. They invariably have misaligned and unoriginal brick courses. 2018
