When I turned 60 years old I decided I didn’t want a ‘big birthday’ fuss. Instead, my wife Mavis and I spent several relaxing hours wandering round the grounds at Cliveden on a lovely summer’s day. It’s my only visit there to date, but I’m sure I’ll go back. While I love exploring wild places in the UK and elsewhere, I also find formality and symmetry appealing in the right context, and I feel Cliveden is a perfect example. I’m also a sucker for extensive views, and this image combines a colourful foreground with a vista stretching to the distant horizon.
