After my marriage in 1983 I moved from Bracknell to Emmer Green, the northernmost point of Reading. This was much more convenient for exploring the Chilterns, although for a long time I never realised just how close the boundary is. Clayfield Copse, a local nature reserve since 1991, is a short walk from where I live. It has been managed by the Friends of Clayfield Copse since 1989 and even before that I was a regular explorer, looking for flowers and butterflies in the mainly woodland surroundings. January 2010
