A focal point is St Peter’s Parish Church. First mentioned in 1133, it owes its present design of brick to hundreds of years of restoration and extension including a new tower that replaced the old one when the nave and aisles collapsed in a storm in 1708. The current church dates to 1714, built in a Queen Anne style although it was substantially rebuilt in 1726.
