Next to Alice, Duchess of Suffolk’s tomb, there is the tomb of her father, Thomas Chaucer (d.1434), and his wife Matilda. Medieval heraldic shields surround the tomb. Thomas Chaucer, the son of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer, was a politician who became Speaker of the House of Commons.
