A bucolic view of the River Hiz, just south of Hitchin Priory. The small river flows north through the town centre to eventually join the River Ouse to flow into The Wash. According to local sources, the 'z' was an abbreviated character for a 'tch' sound, as in the name of the town, so it really should be pronounced the 'River Hitch'.
