Wycombe Abbey buildings started as a leper hospital, became Loakes Manor and then were transformed into the style of a gothic abbey for the first Lord Carrington in 1803. It was sold in 1896 to become Wycombe Abbey School for girls which continues today. During World War II it was used for the headquarters of the US 8th Army Air Force.
