Gaddesden Place has a magnificent view over Great Gaddesden village and the Gade valley at Water End. The original Palladian villa was built by the architect James Wyatt for Thomas Halsey. Thought to be Wyatt's first country house, he designed it in 1768 when he was 22 and at the start of his very successful career. The house was rebuilt after it was burnt down in 1905.
