To end on a joyful note, how about the wild flower meadows planted at College Lake in 2011? The pink bud is a corn-cockle and I had to consult Gay about the dark red flower nestling amongst the ox-eye daisies. She suggested field cow-wheat, which used to be a regular meadow flower but is now endangered; so it was lovely to see it there.
