The Dyke’s leafy southern path is officially named the Wendover Way in memory of Viscount Wendover who was killed, aged 20, in 1915 at the second battle of Ypres. He was the only son of Viscount Charles Robert Wynn-Carrington, a former MP for High Wycombe and Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire. He gave The Dyke and adjoining wood to the former Borough of High Wycombe in 1923.
