The Tring bypass was built in 1973 as the first part of the planned A41(M) motorway. Although subsequently downgraded, it did mean that towns and villages along the route were spared the ever-increasing amounts of through traffic. The High Street was returned to comparative peace and quiet and the rich variety of architecture makes it a fascinating place to visit.
