At Lacey Green is the oldest surviving smock windmill in the UK, with wooden machinery dating from around 1650. It was restored from dereliction to working order between 1971 and 1986 by volunteer members of the Chiltern Society. It received an Engineering Heritage award from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
