No Chilterns collection can be complete without a red kite picture. I have watched the numbers rapidly increase over the years, from the tentative first attempts at reintroduction in the Stokenchurch area. This picture was taken on a walk around the village of Turville. I was delighted to see the red kite that I was watching place himself in front of the smoke from someone’s bonfire, creating an impression of mist over the red rooftops. It was great for me too that the picture was “blown up” large and used at a Chiltern Society photographic exhibition.

This is one of my favourite photographs in the collection. A perfect example of the photographer being in the right place at the right time and having the presence of mind and skill to pull it off.
