The central chantry window depicts Bishop Samuel Wilberforce (1805-1873), a noted Buckinghamshire cleric. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society, a champion of liberalism and social reform. As a noted public speaker, he took part in the controversial 1860 Oxford debate on Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. In 1869 he was appointed Bishop of Winchester.
