The Visual Arts Centre in Rose Avenue forms part of the Sir William Ramsay School. The £3-million performing arts centre was opened in July 2007 by the school's patron Earl Howe (also patron of the Chiltern Society) and contains dance studios, music rooms and a media room. Now an academy, the school was founded in 1976 and is named after Sir William Ramsay, a physical chemist. He discovered the neon, argon, krypton and xenon gases and in 1904 won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. He lived in Hazlemere until his death in 1916.
