Coombe Hill has been one of my favourite places in the Chilterns ever since I first discovered it, walking out of the woods on the ridge to see the vast plain revealed below me. I suppose I must have realised I would get a good view, but I remember being taken aback by how wonderful it was. I’ve returned many times since, with many different people and occasionally on my own, and it never fails to impress me. I love the way the ponies have gathered round the toposcope in this photograph.
