Sir Francis Dashwood was the benefactor of St Lawrence church in West Wycombe and he financed the rebuilding as a spectacular mid-18th century Palladian structure, possibly influenced by Palladio’s design for a Customs building in Venice (Pevsner). This would have been the view of the south façade of the church from Sir Francis Dashwood’s house and garden on the opposite hillside. The west stone tower is 14th century. The nave is 18th century and has five arched windows and a blank circle.
