The south elevation of the church shows the Tudor Hastings Chapel built in 1558. Although originally a separate building, it is now connected to the south side of the chancel. The square-headed windows are reminiscent of 16th century domestic building style. Jenkins describes it as of ‘yeoman quality’. It was originally built to serve as an oratory (a Christian room for prayer) for an adjacent almshouse, now removed. It also served as a burial place for Lord Hastings of Loughborough and other family members.
