The River Wye flows alongside the busy Town Lane in Wooburn Town on to Bourne End where it enters the River Thames. For centuries the fast-flowing chalk-stream water proved ideal for milling corn, preparing wool for weaving and for papermaking. The Wooburn area alone supported around 16 mills. The last of these was Glory Mill, a paper making operation that ceased in 2000 and become a business park.
