n the haze beyond the Lambert Arms lie the village of Aston Rowant and the hamlets of Postcombe and Chalford. This has always been a predominantly agricultural area. The late nineteenth century censuses show the male population in these villages were almost exclusively farm labourers and many of their womenfolk were lace makers.
