St Giles’ church today has remains of its Saxon, Norman and Early Gothic predecessors, as well as the red-brick Tudor building. From 1701 to 1924 it had a spire. The church was formerly enclosed within the grounds of Stoke Park, 200 yards away from the old Manor House, which explains its remoteness from the centre of the village.
