The first bakery opened on this site in about 1850 and continued there until a few years ago. It is said that the oven was never completely cold for over 150 years. In 1877 the landlord, Lord Brownlow, agreed to the amalgamation of the bakery with two adjacent cottages and the date with his symbol, the initial B, are visible on the wall.
