The New Venture pub in Queen's Square opened at Christmas 1952. The name was chosen to reflect the pioneering spirit of all those involved in the early days of the New Town. On the right is Adeyfield Community Centre, opened by Lord Reith in 1953. Such public halls were important in all Hemel's neighbourhoods.
