St Mary's churchyard includes a memorial to Captain George Crosfield Norris Nicholson who died on 11 March 1916 aged 32 while serving with 28 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps (it became the Royal Air Force in 1918). He was previously Principal Secretary to the Secretary of State for War and joined the RFC in 1914.
