Ladye Place manor was built on the site of the ruined priory by John Lovelace in 1545. In 1688 he invited like-minded protestant aristocrats to join him and overthrow the catholic James II and replace him with the king's protestant son-in-law William of Orange. The bloodless 'Glorious Revolution' followed leading to the joint reign of William and Mary. The manor was demolished in 1838 and rebuilt as an attractive Victorian mansion.
