Monument to Sir Isaac Pocock who died aged 59 of a heart attack while punting on the River Thames on 8 October 1810. Its ornate style recalls depictions of Lord Nelson’s death in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar. This may reflect the influence of his older brother, Captain Nicholas Pocock, who was a marine painter, or of his nephew, also named Isaac, who was a dramatist and painted portraits and historical subjects.
