Over the chancel arch is a faded painting of royal arms dated 1733, flanked by panels containing the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and the Creed. Parts of an earlier Royal Arms can be glimpsed in the inscription below the shield. This probably showed the Arms of James I as the accounts of 1606 record a payment of 18 shillings to a painter for depicting them.
